Resurfacing work on the A490 from Chirbury to county boundary – update

Related topics: Uncategorized

Essential resurfacing work on the A490 between Chirbury and the county boundary near Churchstoke is to start next Monday (12 September).

Following discussions about the work the overall duration has been reduced from ten weeks to seven weeks. This will be achieved by:

  • Using daytime closures (from 9am to 3pm) for the first two weeks.
  • Switching to night-time closures (from 8pm to 6am) for the following five weeks, and working under traffic lights during the day.

The road closure dates and times are:

Weeks 1 and 2 (Monday 12 September to Sunday 25 September 2016)

  • Off-peak weekday closures (Monday to Friday) between 9am and 3pm.
  • At weekends and all other times two way traffic signals will be in operation.

Weeks 3 to 7 (Monday 26 September to 6am Saturday 28 October 2016)

  • Night-time closures (Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs, Fri nights only) between 8pm and 6am.
  • At all other times two way traffic signals will be in operation.

Any residents and businesses within the closed section of road will be able to access their properties during the closure periods. There will also be access for pedestrians, dismounted cyclists, horse riders, emergency services and bin lorries.

These roadworks are essential in refurbishing the road so that it continues to meet the needs of the community long into the future. As such we ask for patience and support while the work is carried out, and offer our apologies for any inconvenience that may be caused.

A signed diversion route via Welshpool and Newtown deemed suitable for HGVs will be in place while the road is closed (see image). There’s an alternative route on the B road network via Montgomery, but this won’t be signed as a diversion route.
