UCS will open its doors to the next intake of prospective students
Students looking to start a degree course in 2017 can gain a taste of University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) life at an Open Day next month.
As UCS’s newest undergraduates settle into their studies, the institution will throw its doors open to the next intake of prospective students.
The Open Day will take place on Saturday 22 October 2016, from 10am to 3pm at the University Centre’s learning and research base at Guildhall, Frankwell Quay.
The day will provide the opportunity to visit the University Centre’s fantastic study spaces and accommodation, learn more about the courses, meet the course tutors and Students’ Union representatives, as well as talk with current students about their experiences.
Professor Anna Sutton, UCS Provost, said:
“Attending an Open Day is a useful starting point for prospective students to research their options. They will be able to take part in taster sessions, have a one-to-one chat with academic staff and take the time to explore the academic facilities, living accommodation and the town. They can also find out more about the support available to help them during their degree, which can make a real difference to their careers.
“The day provides a chance to showcase Shrewsbury, and the supportive and stimulating environment students can enjoy here. This is an opportunity to view what University Centre Shrewsbury has to offer them and discover how we can help them achieve their full potential.
“They can find out for themselves what it would really be like to live and study here – it’s an ideal way of seeing whether Shrewsbury is right for them.”
Geography student Carrie Lanceley added:
“Shrewsbury is vibrant; there are plenty of places of interest and lots to do to suit everyone. It’s a great town to study and live in.”
UCS has been established by the University of Chester and Shropshire Council. All courses are accredited by the University of Chester.
Research, learning and teaching are aligned to local, regional and national needs, spanning five areas: medicine and health; sustainable business and community development; societal innovation; design, heritage and the built environment, and culture, creativity and place.
Within these areas, courses offered include History, English, Applied Psychology, Business Management, Biochemistry and Sport Management.
