New machines, barriers and number plate recognition at Raven Meadows multi-storey car park in Shrewsbury

New payment machines, barriers and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) have been introduced in Raven Meadows multi-storey car park in Shrewsbury town centre to improve the service offered to visitors.

The new equipment integrates vehicle sensors, number plate cameras and technology in barriers on entry and exit points.

There are also new ways for motorists to pay for parking. As well as accepting cash payment, including banknotes, payment can now be made by card including both Chip and PIN and contactless card payments.

As well as the new equipment in Raven Meadows car park Shropshire Council has introduced pay-by-phone cashless payment technology in four of its pay and display car parks in Shrewsbury – Bridge Street, St Austin’s Street, The Tannery, and Frankwell main car park.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“After listening to the views of Shrewsbury BID and others I’m delighted that we’ve been able to make these improvements to the service we offer to the visitors and business using our car parks.

“This new user-friendly technology enables customers to easily pay for their parking, and in a safe and secure way and we’re confident that it’ll enhance the experience of people visiting and parking in Shrewsbury town centre.”

Raven Meadows multi-storey car park has 856 spaces and is open from Monday to Saturday from 7am to 7pm and 10am to 5pm on Sundays. Parking on Sundays costs £1 all day.
