News from our partners Shropshire and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust

The first family fun day organised by the Trust which runs Shropshire’s two acute hospitals has proven a big success with hundreds of people turning out.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) held the fun day and its Annual General Meeting at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on Saturday 3 September 2016.

Around 500 people turned out for the day, which provided a variety of stalls, activities and games, tours and workshops for all the family. The day also saw the launch of a £2.6million appeal to support patients living with dementia.

The fun day was officially opened by Trust Chair Professor Peter Latchford and the Mayor of Shrewsbury Councillor Ioan Jones with the support of Town Crier Martin Wood.

The event, at the Shropshire Conference Centre and Hamar Centre, was followed by SaTH’s Annual General Meeting.

Julia Clarke, Director of Corporate Governance at SaTH, said:

“Our fun day was a big success. It was the first one we have held and the idea was to open our doors to the community.

“At the end of the day, that is who we are here to serve. Often people only come to hospital when they are not well, so it was a nice way for them to see some parts of one of our hospitals.

“We also held resuscitation workshops training people in CPR, had some Dementia Friends information sessions, and were joined by partners from the emergency services and Severn Hospice.

“We also had information about our Sustainable Services programme and our partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle.

“We had a lot of support from people and are planning to hold the fun day again next year.”
