The Big Friendly Read – Summer Reading Challenge 2016
Shropshire Libraries are celebrating 100 years of Roald Dahl, the world’s favourite storyteller.
The Big Friendly Read, Summer Reading Challenge 2016 launch on Saturday 16 July 2016 is your chance to join in the celebrations. Sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge and get a free collector folder to keep your special Big Friendly Read cards. Aimed at 4- to 11-year-olds and their families, the cards include Quentin Blake illustrations from some of Roald Dahl’s best-loved stories – you can collect all six cards as you read any library books of your choice.
It’s fun, it’s friendly and, best of all, it’s totally free in your local library.
Stuart West, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for leisure and culture, said:
“Children’s reading can dip during summer holidays, so making reading fun is a great way to keep children interested. Roald Dahl’s inspired theme for The Big Friendly Read, Summer Reading Challenge 2016, is a perfect theme for children and adults to discover or rekindle love of reading this summer.”
To support The Big Friendly Read, Summer Reading Challenge 2016, Shropshire Libraries have made it possible for adults and teenagers to join in the challenge with The Big Summer of Reading 2016. With a prize draw and incentives for those who have read 4 books, reading will be all the rage this summer in Shropshire.
For more information about Shropshire Libraries summer events and information about how to join, see shropshire.gov.uk/libraries or visit your local library.
“My little boy has done the children’s Summer Reading Challenge. It’s good to be able to model reading for pleasure.” Shropshire Summer Read 2015 comment.
