Essential resurfacing work on and around Shrewsbury’s Weeping Cross roundabout

Related topics: Uncategorized

Essential resurfacing work is to be carried out in Shrewsbury in late July and early August 2016 at Weeping Cross Roundabout and the Shrewsbury Business Park Roundabout. Thieves Lane between the two roundabouts will also be resurfaced as part of the work, as will the approaches to each roundabout.

Phased road closures are required for the majority of the works and diversion routes will be in place while the roads are closed.

The work will be carried out in three phases, as follows:

Phase 1

  • Saturday 23 July to Tuesday 26 July
  • Work to lay-bys adjacent to Weeping Cross Roundabout
  • No closure required, traffic cones and signs only

Phase 2

  • Wednesday 27 July to Saturday 30 July
  • Weeping Cross roundabout and approaches will be resurfaced
  • Weeping Cross Roundabout closed for the duration

Phase 3

  • Saturday 30 July to Saturday 6 August*
  • Thieves Lane, Roundabout and approaches to be resurfaced
  • Business Park Roundabout and Thieves Lane will be closed for the duration

*Phase 3 will begin only after Phase 2 is complete.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport:

“We appreciate that this important work on these roundabouts and the surrounding roads will cause some disruption to local residents and businesses, but we hope they will bear with us while this important work is carried out. Once the work is complete residents, businesses and road users will see significant improvements.”

A signed diversion route will be in place while the road is closed.

Letters have been sent to all residents and businesses in the area to advise them about the planned work and information signs have been put in place.

Information about the work, including diversion routes, can be found on a dedicated webpage at shropshire.gov.uk/roadworks. Updates will be added to this page throughout the work to keep people informed of progress.
