News from our partners, Alaska Property Group

Alan Hay’s Alaska Property Group has just commenced construction on a new £1.5m “retail terrace” at Anchorage Avenue, Shrewsbury Business Park, Shrewsbury, to include a 3,000 sq ft convenience store for Co-op Food and three further units. It is expected that the shops will be trading by October of this year.

Providing about 10 new jobs at the unit, the Co-op convenience store is part of a major expansion by Co-op Food into this sector, reflected in their most recent trading results which show an increase in Food Group profits of 3.3% and the opening of just under 100 new outlets last year. The Co-op has announced that the store on Shrewsbury Business Park will be one of the first to reveal their new signage and branding.

Alan Hay said:

“I have been trying for some years to reach the point where we had sufficient employees on the Park to support a retail strip and I am delighted to be starting work on this much needed facility , with Co-op Food having a wide ranging offer that will also service the neighbouring housing areas and those using the nearby A5 and A458 roads.”

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for business, said:

“The start of work on the Co-op Food store and other new shops is great news all round. It’ll create jobs for local people, and provide additional shops for people working and living nearby – and it demonstrates the continued success of the business park that there are now sufficient numbers working there to support these new shops.”

One of the other units is already under offer and Cooper Green Pooks and Halls – who acted for Alaska in the letting of the units – are also seeking tenants for the remaining shop in the block which has a total area of about 154 sq m (1,654 sq ft) and could be split as two units.
