Tributes have been paid to Pamela Larney, who served as Chairman of the former Shropshire County Council from 1999 to 2001.

Mrs Larney, who was Shropshire County Councillor for the Church Stretton division from 1985 to 2001, died peacefully on Friday 6 May 2016 in West Sussex at the age of 94.

She lived in Shropshire for over 50 years, but had been living close to family for the past three-and-a-half years.

Malcolm Pate, Leader of Shropshire Council and former Leader of Shropshire County Council, said:

“I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Pam Larney, who I had the pleasure to serve alongside for many years on Shropshire County Council.

“Pam was a dedicated and hard-working councillor who provided excellent and unstinting service to the council and the people of Church Stretton for many years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and all who worked with her.

“My thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.”

A service of remembrance is due to be held in Shropshire this summer and details will be announced shortly. Mrs Larney’s family have invited people with whom she worked and was associated with over her many years of public service to attend the service to remember her and say goodbye.

Mrs Larney’s funeral service will be held at the Surrey & Sussex Crematorium near Crawley on Tuesday 24 May.
