Get involved in Day of Action in Condover on Wednesday 17 February
Condover and its surrounding villages are to benefit from a “Day of Action”, which takes place in Condover Village Hall on Wednesday 17 February 2016 from 11am to 3pm. The Day of Action will provide local residents with the opportunity to find out about a range of initiatives that help the community to stay safe.
The village hall will host talks from West Mercia Police, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, The Rural Community Council, Smart Water, and Neighbourhood Watch about issues like distraction burglary, property marking, home security, chip pan safety and the Good Neighbour Scheme. The event will also be supported by Royal Bank of Scotland and Severn Trent, who will raise awareness about online, postal and telephone scams, and doorstep crime.
The Day of Action is arranged by the Shrewsbury crime and disorder reduction partnership, Bronze Level Tasking, which includes Shropshire Council, West Mercia Police, Severnside Housing, Shrewsbury Town Council and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Inspector Ed Hancox, Chair of the Bronze Level Tasking group, said:-
“I would encourage as many people as possible to attend. Not only is this a great chance to meet my team and partner agencies, but also to see first-hand the work that they are putting in to keep local residents safe, and help in combatting crime and anti-social behaviour. It is sometimes perceived that rural areas have been forgotten about; this Day of Action will help to show otherwise.”
Karen Calder, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for community safety, said:-
“It’s great to see so many organisations coming together and working with local residents to improve their neighbourhood. Events like the Day of Action give people a real opportunity to meet and engage with partners and see for themselves how working in partnership can achieve real tangible outcomes.”
Tim Barker, local Shropshire Councillor for Burnell, said:-
‘‘I am delighted that multiple agencies are working together to support our local community. Keeping residents up to date with the latest scams and crime prevention techniques will help protect the most vulnerable residents from those looking to take advantage of them. I encourage all residents in the area to attend and join in the Day of Action.’’
