Shropshire Archives closed week beginning Monday 7 December 2015
Shropshire Council’s Shropshire Archives will be closed for the week beginning Monday 7 December 2015 for essential behind the scenes work.
Like many archive services across the country Shropshire Archives closes for one week, to allow for time to do essential behind the scenes work which can only be done during a closed period. The service will close at 2pm on Saturday 5 December 2015 and reopen at 10am on Wednesday 16 December 2015. This period has been chosen as it is typically a quiet one for the service.
Mary McKenzie, team leader at Shropshire Archives, said:
“We hope our customers will understand the need for us to work on these key tasks. This year we plan to work on the cataloguing of the Shrewsbury St Chad’s parish collection. This is a very large collection of records dating from 1616, and therefore we need the space usually occupied by the public to work on it. Once the collection is catalogued, it will be available online for everyone to see.”
During the closed period customers can still telephone and email the service, though detailed enquiries will only be responded to once the service is fully open.
