Local arts, crafts and hobbies showcase at Bridgnorth Library this Saturday
Do you often think about taking up a new hobby or interest, be it joining a group or society or just having a go on your own?
If so you may like to take the opportunity to get inspired by local arts, crafts and hobbies at a free drop-in event at Bridgnorth Library on Saturday 12 December 2015 between 10am and 1pm.
There will be a chance to chat to local craftspeople and representatives from clubs and societies such as the Library Knit and Natter Group, the Flower Club, Camera Club, Bridgnorth Historical Society and to enjoy tea, coffee and cake provided by Bridgnorth WI.
You may wonder what all this has to do with libraries?
Branch Manager, Emma Spenser, said:
“Libraries are great places to be inspired. You can find a wealth of books on your chosen interest as well as coming across books about hobbies and interests you may never have thought of. Joining and borrowing books, including e-books and magazines, is completely free so this is a great opportunity to come and find out just what we have to offer.”
Libraries are about more than just books these days; they are lively community spaces with a diverse range of services and activities. Bridgnorth Library is no exception; on any given day you are likely to find a Knit and Natter group meeting in the corner, a meeting of the Library Friends’ group, a rhyme-time for children, the Local History Group offering advice on family history, a craft demonstration or a performing poet.
Steve Charmley, the Shropshire Councillor responsible for Libraries said:
“With the Arts Council as the lead body for public libraries nationally, our libraries in Shropshire work with local craftspeople, artists and in partnership with local arts organisations. Shropshire Libraries are also currently a part of the BBC’s Get Creative campaign. This event is a great opportunity to showcase the role libraries play in the arts, learning and creativity.”
So, if you feel like taking a break from the crowds on one of the busiest shopping days before Christmas, why not drop into the Library in Bridgnorth on 12 December for tea and cake and maybe a bit of inspiration for the New Year.

The library service is also host to the immensely popular Shropshire Community Directory, a database of around 3,000 clubs, societies and organisations in and around Shropshire.
The Community Directory Officer will be on hand to demonstrate it to you if you have never seen it before and help you search for clubs and societies in your town or village or for subjects you are interested in. If you are a member of a local group, you may want to check if you are included.
