Council staff help ensure Shrewsbury students are happy in their new home
A Shropshire Council team is helping to ensure that Shrewsbury’s new undergraduates are enjoying life in their new home in the town.
Shire Services – the council’s cleaning and catering team – is responsible for the management of Mardol House, University Centre Shrewsbury’s student accommodation.
This includes cleaning, maintenance and provision of a new concierge service.
Through the concierge service the team provides support and deals with any questions or concerns that the students may have about their accommodation, living away from home for the first time, or about living in Shrewsbury.
Janet Croft, Shire Services manager, said:
“Five members of staff are now employed to manage the accommodation. They deal with all manner of queries to do with the building and students and it is their job to make sure the students are living in a safe and secure environment.
“It was an interesting challenge making sure the accommodation was ready for when the students arrived in September. Mardol House is the only contract we manage which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and in the early days we all pitched in helping to cover shifts and train the new concierge staff.
“The feedback we’ve had so far from students has been positive. Many have commented on the quality of the accommodation and its excellent location, right in the heart of the town centre.”
