Chance to view proposals for Shifnal town centre enhancements
Proposals for enhancements to Shifnal town centre will go on display this week, when an exhibition is held at Shifnal Village Hall.
The exhibition is part of a consultation into a proposed new Transport Strategy for Shifnal – which is being developed by Shropshire Council to manage the projected growth in travel likely to result from new housing developments in the town.
Officers from Shropshire Council and Mouchel, the council’s consultants, will be at Shifnal Village Hall on Friday 11 December 2015 from 1pm until 7pm, and on Saturday 12 December 2015 from 10am until 1pm.
People will be able to view the proposals, ask questions, and make any comments.
Information will also be available on improvements to core walking routes and a proposal for a linear park
Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:
“There has been significant local interest in investigating the potential to improve the street environment in Shifnal town centre. Therefore Shropshire Council has developed a proposal for an enhancement scheme. The future of this scheme will depend upon local support.
“We hope people will take the opportunity to come and look at the much anticipated and exciting proposals for enhancements to Shifnal town centre, meet the design team and give us their thoughts.”
Kevin Turley, Shropshire Councillor for Shifnal north, said:
“I would like to ask the residents of Shifnal and the surrounding area to take some time out and come and have a look. Shifnal is long overdue an overhaul of its centre and the plans will give it a fresh and welcoming new feel.”
Stuart West, Shropshire Councillor for Shifnal south and Cosford, said:
“We have been working closely with the design team and local representatives over the past 12 months to put together an enhancement scheme for Shifnal town centre. We look forward to sharing these timely proposals and I would encourage as many people as possible to come along on Friday and Saturday and give us their feedback.”
The proposals will also be available online from 13 to 23 December 2015 at shropshire.gov.uk/get-involved– so anyone unable to attend the exhibition will still have the chance to view and comment on them.
