Woodside Primary School, Oswestry student, Angharad Hughes, age 8, is the lucky winner of two tickets to watch the England v France international football friendly at Wembley on Tuesday 17 November 2015.

The tickets were one of the prizes on offer to Shropshire schools that took part in a competition in the Kick It Out initiative in October 2015, led in partnership by Shropshire Council and Shropshire Football Association.

Kick It Out is football’s equality and inclusion organisation. It works throughout the football, educational and community sectors to challenge discrimination, encourage inclusive practices and campaign for positive change.

Roy Waterfield, Shropshire FA Chief Executive, said:

“The Shropshire FA is delighted to donate a pair of tickets for the England international in support of the Kick It Out promotion. It is essential that we continue to champion inclusion within football and tackle discrimination in all its forms.”

Rob McDevitt, headteacher of Woodside Primary School, said:

“Our school fully supports the Kick It Out campaign, and we are all delighted that Angharad has this brilliant opportunity to watch such a high profile match.”

Vince Hunt, local Shropshire Councillor for Oswestry West, and Woodside Primary School governor, said:

“I want to congratulate the team on a successful Kick It Out campaign. It is so important that our young people get this message and understand it. As a governor at Woodside Primary School I know it was well received, and I am delighted that one of our young people won. It will be a treasured memory for life going to watch England at Wembley.”

David Turner, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for equalities, said:

“We are proud to be supporting the Kick It Out message of equality and fairness across Shropshire, and congratulate the winner on the fantastic prize they’ve won.

“We are delighted that young people are learning about discrimination and its impact on individuals and the community, by using football as the vehicle for communication. This excellent event, now in its eleventh successful year, mirrors our core policy that we will not accept any hate crime in Shropshire.”
