Matchday parking reminder to fans and local residents
With the start of the the football season this weekend, Shropshire Council is reminding all football fans visiting Shrewsbury Town FC to be considerate as to where they park their cars when attending home games this season, and adhere to any parking restrictions in force around the stadium and the local residential areas.
In particular the roads in and around Sutton Farm are covered by an event parking zone on match days, which means that only those with the appropriate permits are permitted to park in the area.
Mal Price, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for regulatory services, said:
“With the football season starting this weekend it is important that all fans driving to the games park their vehicles safely, and in accordance with any parking restrictions giving consideration to road users and local residents. All the restrictions are identified with signs and road markings, so please pay careful attention when parking your vehicle.”
Alan Roberts, Shrewsbury Town FC Safety Officer, said:
“Fans are reminded to read the travel plan, which highlights the parking and travel options to and from the stadium. There are a number of options available when coming to the Greenhous Meadow. It also lists the areas where fans cannot park, and we ask that fans take note of this and don’t park anywhere that could cause obstruction. Since last season a number of new developments have opened around the stadium, and parking at those is prohibited on matchday. As it is the first league game of the season this Saturday, fans are asked to arrive early to give extra time to pick up passes and tickets.”
