Health and wellbeing advice at Flower Show

Health organisations across the county will be coming together at this week’s flower Show under the ‘Shropshire Together’ banner, to give visitors an opportunity to find out more about services to support their health and wellbeing.

Shropshire Together, a partnership comprising public, voluntary and community sector organisations, will be on hand to provide free health and wellbeing advice and activities for people of all ages.

Organisations on hand at the Flower Show will include:

Healthwatch Shropshireproviding information about how to comment on experiences of local health and social care services, promoting its information and signposting service, and providing information about volunteering opportunities.
South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust –
providing information on mental health and learning disability health services in the county.
Shropshire Council’s Library Health Zoneproviding advice services to help people with their health and well-being, such as information on self-help books, sociable daytime activities and on the free Home Library Service for those who cannot get to the library themselves.
Public Health’s Help2Change – providing advice on leading a healthier lifestyle.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) –launching SaTH Heroes – an opportunity for people to nominate their hospital hero, and offering a chance for people to provide feedback about the services we provide.
NHS Future Fit– offering updates on the programme and telling people about what’s coming up next and lots of goodies to take away
Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group – providing information on the role of Shropshire’s own CCG and promoting the current listening exercises it is undertaking in relation to hip and knee surgery
People2People – providing information on the role of People2People and infor and advice on adult social care, what’s available, and discussions about any individual needs.

Visitors will also get the chance to experience a ‘fat suit’, go on a smoothie bike, and try out some ‘hola-hooping’.

“It’s good to see our Health and Wellbeing services working together to showcase the support on offer to help people live healthier lifestyles. The event is also a great opportunity for visitors to find out more how we work together and for them to provide us with feedback on their views on Health and Wellbeing services in Shropshire.”

“We’re looking forward to speaking to visitors to the flower show about their experiences at our hospitals, and to give them a chance to nominate our staff as their hospital hero.

“Our hospital heroes awards are an opportunity for people to tell us about staff who should be recognised for the outstanding things they do.

Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) – the local NHS organisation responsible for commissioning local healthcare for the people of Shropshire. This includes commissioning services like acute and community planned hospital care, rehabilitation care, urgent and emergency care, community health services and mental health and learning disability services.

Healthwatch Shropshire is the independent consumer champion for health and social care in Shropshire. Healthwatch Shropshire seeks the views of patients, carers, service users and the wider public about how their health and social care services are run. Healthwatch has the right to visit places providing publicly funded health and social care services (such as hospitals, GP practices and residential homes). It makes reports and recommendations, publicises its findings, and it uses its statutory powers to influence change.

Shropshire Council provides a range of services to Shropshire residents including the delivery of health and social care services. This incorporates children’s services, social care placements and support, safeguarding of vulnerable children and adults, Shropshire libraries, information, advice and guidance, public health support around healthy lifestyles and services from the leisure and outdoor recreation teams.

South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provide adult and older people’s mental health services and learning disability health services. They work in partnership to promote the independence, rehabilitation, social inclusion and recovery of people with a mental illness.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of district general hospital services for half a million people living in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and mid Wales, Services are delivered from two main acute sites: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury and the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford.

People 2 People is a not-for-profit independent social work practice working with Shropshire Council to provide adult social care support to older people and those with disabilities. The aim of People2People is to offer a different way of supporting individuals to keep their independence for as long as possible.

Help2Change – provides a single point of access to a suite of services to help individuals improve their health. Services are aimed at keeping individuals well, improving their wellbeing and preventing illness. Information and advice is also available via the Healthy Shropshire website.
