Get composting this Bank Holiday
As part of International Compost Awareness Week (4 May to 10 May 2015) Veolia, in partnership with Shropshire Council, is encouraging more residents to get composting with a special ‘share and save’ offer on home composting bins.
The ‘buy one get one half price’ offer on the already discounted compost bins means residents can team up with a family member, friend or neighbour to each get a compost bin for only £19.98 plus delivery.
Once put to use, household organic waste can be recycled into fantastic peat free compost, that will not only improve the quality of home-grown fruit and vegetables but increase yield, providing an abundance of produce to share between family and friends. Home composting has the added benefit of producing a free supply of top quality compost.
During Compost Awareness Week 2015, the volunteer group The Shropshire Master Composters will be promoting composting in their local areas.
Master Composters are a group of Shropshire and Telford residents who give up 30 hours a year to promote home composting. They take part in a range of activities including working with local schools and youth groups, giving talks to WIs and gardening groups and spreading the word amongst family and friends.
Full training is giving and anyone interested can see more information on the council website here.
Cat Slaytor, Communications Manager for Veolia, said:
“Last year we trained an additional 10 volunteer Master Composters to help educate people about home composting. This is all part of our strategy to encourage more home composting in Shropshire, but it’s also part of our broader commitment to corporate social responsibility. Although many households already compost at home, we want others to get involved. Our volunteer Master Composter network is key to spreading the word and we would love others in the county to get involved.”
