University Centre Shrewsbury is offering a work-based postgraduate course which allows students to earn a salary worth more than the cost of their training, while gaining practical and academic business skills.

The Shrewsbury Business Master’s follows the success of the Chester Business Master’s programme – one of the first business courses of its type in the UK.

During the programme students will complete two 20-week periods of paid placements in some of Shropshire’s top companies, accounting for two thirds of the Master’s degree assessment.

To help further, people who move fast and apply before 20 April 2015, can also apply for the Chester Postgraduate Support Scheme – a bursary award package to pay towards fees.

Professor Clare Schofield said:

“The Shrewsbury Business Master’s gives students the chance to gain invaluable work experience while working towards a postgraduate degree and, as an added bonus, students are paid a salary that more than covers their course fees.

“People who submit their application before 20 April could also benefit from a bursary.

“The programme is a fantastic opportunity for graduates to achieve a great qualification, enhance their skills and get a foot in the door with businesses across the county.”

Sir David Lees, Chair of the University Centre Shrewsbury Advisory Board and ex-Chairman of the Court at the Bank of England, added:

“The courses and wider opportunities at University Centre Shrewsbury are designed to ensure that students excel in their chosen field, by offering high-quality academic standards alongside practice-based experience.

“The Shrewsbury Business Master’s is a foremost example of this aim in action, with great benefits for both students and businesses. Students will carry out a project to boost business performance and the course will attract the very best graduates to the county. At the same time, the programme will equip students with the entrepreneurial, analytical, evaluative, consultative and management skills they need to succeed in the workplace.”

The one year full-time course starts in September 2015. Applicants are asked to complete an application form, and submit it with their CV and a strong personal statement, explaining why they are suitable for the course.
