Waste not, Want not: community project transforms land for Bridgnorth residents
News from our partners Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing
A project to transform an area of wasteland into an attractive communal area on Morfe Road, Bridgnorth has been completed after a great display of partnership between local residents, stakeholders and businesses.
Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing and Bridgnorth Town Council each donated approximately £1,000 to support the transformation of an area of wasteland.
The work – which was project managed by Barry Ince and completed by workers from Bridgnorth Town Council – is part of the Grove and Lodge Community Partnership, and has seen an unattractive piece of wasteland be transformed into a communal picnic area with a wild flower garden, to allow residents to enjoy a beautiful view of Bridgnorth.
National building contractor, Speller Metcalfe very kindly donated some patio slabs, sand and cement to the project, while PLS Groundworks laid the slabs to support the project.
Christian Lea, a Shropshire Councillor for Bridgnorth East and Astley Abbotts, said:
“We know the importance of improving local communities and the work on Morfe Road is testament to this. The support we’ve had from organisations like Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing, along with the Town Council to deliver this project has been fantastic. The teamwork that has been displayed is a credit to all involved and I’m delighted that residents have a communal area they can enjoy and be proud of.”
William Parr, a Shropshire Councillor for Bridgnorth East and Astley Abbotts, said:
“The efforts and support of everyone involved in this work has been second to none. The residents needs have been central to this work and I’m confident they will enjoy and be proud of this new space.
I’d like to thank all who enabled the delivery of this project.”
Chris Shepherd, Neighbourhoods Manager for Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing, said:
“We’re committed to supporting community projects like this that provide real benefits to residents and improve local areas. It’s been great to see the collaboration that has taken place between businesses, Bridgnorth Town Council and residents to deliver this project and I’m sure the new communal area will be enjoyed by all.
We also offer support for community projects through our Community Chest Fund, which people can apply for via the form on our website.”
