New website to match people with Personal (care) Assistants

National charity POhWER, a partner of Shropshire Council, has developed a new website to help employers and Personal (care) Assistants find each other in the county.

A Personal Assistant (PA) is a carer who works privately for someone who receives a Direct Payment and is in need of support in their daily lives.  The matching service offered by “find-a-pa” allows people to be in control of who they select and how a PA would support them.

Lee Chapman, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult services – transformation and safeguarding, said:

“This is a great site.  PAs can assist people with all sorts of daily tasks at home, including keeping them safe, supporting them with their personal care needs, and they can also support people to get out and about in their local communities.

“All of these can help someone live at home for longer, ensure their essential needs are met, and potentially avoid the need for residential care.”

The site also offers people information about engaging the services of a PA and the requirements of being an employer.  The recruitment handbook website gives helpful advice and guidance about the process and responsibilities, with downloadable templates and a contract-building tool.
