An exhibition which traces the history of Shrewsbury has been wowing visitors to Theatre Severn’s FBC Manby Bowdler Gallery.

The ‘Charting History’ exhibition traces the history of the ancient Shrewsbury Borough through documents dating from the 1190s to 1830s.

It is just one of the latest creations coming out of ‘Volunteering for Shropshire’s History’, a three year project run by Shropshire Council’s Archives and Museums services, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Michael Turner, Volunteering for Shropshire’s History project manager said:

“With its black background, the exhibition has real impact and includes a timeline plotting key national and international events, with exquisite copies of notable documents that mark milestones in the town’s history, set against it.”

Tina Woodward, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member for visitor economy, said:

“This exhibition is not just for historians, it shows us a massive amount of background about how our county town came to be as it is, both in terms of its administration and its built heritage. There’s something for everyone in it.”
