Shropshire Council worker to donate £1,000 prize money to Prostate Cancer charity
A Shropshire Council manager is to donate £1,000 towards the Prostate Cancer UK charity, having won the money in a special prize draw.
Angela Beechey, the council’s risk and insurance manager, won the money – which was to be donated to a charity of her choice – at the national Association of Local Authority Risk Managers (Alarm) Forum in Manchester earlier in 2014. She was presented with the cheque on Friday 17 October 2014 at Shirehall.
She said personal experience is the reason for choosing Prostate Cancer UK as the recipient of the prize.
Angela said:
“The Alarm Chairman’s charity for the forum was for prostate cancer, and as my father, grandfather and one of my uncles has prostate cancer, I thought it would be a good charity to choose.
“At the same forum a person had cycled all the way from London to Manchester to raise money for the same cause.”
Angela was attending the forum with a Shropshire Council colleague to present a seminar on opportunity risk management, which was very well received and enjoyed excellent feedback.
The Alarm Forum gave the opportunity to network and speak with different suppliers, ranging from solicitors to insurance companies.
JLT – a firm of brokers – are responsible for the awarding of the prize, and drew Angela’s business card from a number of entrants.
