Secure Your Apprenticeship – Autumn 2014 events
Young people living in Shropshire are encouraged to get ready for employment at free apprenticeship events taking place this month throughout the county.
County Training, part of Shropshire Council, is running a series of information and advice events for young people and their parents/carers to promote the benefits of vocational training, which have already started this week.
This week’s events continue on the following dates:
- Thursday 9 October 2014 – Telford at 5.30pm
- Monday 13 October – Whitchurch at 5.30pm
- Tuesday 14 October – Oswestry at 5.30pm
- Wednesday 15 October – Market Drayton at 5.30pm
The organisers are encouraging anyone interested in finding out more about the apprenticeship programme to come along. Due to high levels of interests at previous similar events, anyone that would like to attend is advised to book a place by calling 0345 678 9023.
These ‘not to be missed’ events promise a wide variety of opportunities for all young people (regardless of academic abilities) leaving school or college this year as well as 16-24 year olds looking for work and training. County Training also offer the pre-apprenticeship programme “Advance” which has been designed for those individuals who are leaving school but who are not yet ready for an apprenticeship or college. The Advance programme works with their learners to improve their English and Maths levels as well as improve upon their confidence and gain valuable work experience which as a result will prepare all learners to progress either to start at college or to gain an apprenticeship placement.
Parents and carers are welcome to attend the events to find out about the range of apprenticeships, work and training opportunities available for their sons and daughters.
Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services – transformation and safeguarding, said:
“The Secure Your Apprenticeship events encourage local young people to take control of their future and to see that an apprenticeship could be the right path for them as apprenticeships are increasingly becoming a popular method of gaining a secure footing on the career ladder.“
Not only will considering their personal aims and aspirations increase confidence among those attending, but there will be real opportunities to secure job interviews or places on work related training programmes. All those who would like to come along will need to book a place and will receive a free pack with information on career options and a handy booklet full of hints and tips on CV writing, interview techniques, speculative letters and what employers want.
For further details, venue information or to book a place on one of the events please call 0345 678 9023 or email countytraining@shropshire.gov.uk.
