Shropshire Council seeks provider to lead on and help shape youth activities
Shropshire Council is publishing an invitation to tender today, Friday 15 August 2014.
The council is seeking applications for an infrastructure support service, which will play an important role in its future plans for commissioning activities for young people.
From April 2015, the council plans to build a commissioning model that is based on developing youth activities in local areas which focuses on their specific local needs and greater involvement of local young people and their communities.
Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for leisure, libraries and culture, said:
“Our aim is to ensure that as many young people as possible can continue to access a wide range of activities after school, at weekends and in school holidays. There is good evidence to suggest that such activities support young people’s well-being, development of personal and social education and preparation for adulthood.
“At the same time, the role of public services is changing. Shropshire Council is moving at pace to become a council that does more commissioning of activity and less direct delivery of services.”
“The Voluntary and Community Sector already provide a diverse range of such activities for young people across the county. We want to continue to support this sector so that it can grow in terms of capacity and capability. We also want to support commissioning in local areas and greater involvement of young people. The service we are tendering for will be tasked to support all these aspects.
“This is the rationale behind this tender opportunity. We are seeking applications from providers who will work with us, local governance bodies and providers so that we can achieve our aim collectively.”
