Stretton Hobbyfest, a free event for young people, takes place this Saturday 9 August 2014 at 12pm–4pm at the Leisure Centre in Church Stretton.

Young people and their families are invited along to this free event to have a go at a wide range of activities including den building, bush craft, cake decorating, camping demonstration, dance, Zumba, badminton, circus skills, table tennis, golf, skate ramps, netball, gymnastics and a mountain bike ride.

This event has been organised through the Youth Board for Church Stretton and Craven Arms.  This was a pilot project initiated by Shropshire Council in January 2014 to get young people involved in decision-making.  The board was formed in April 2014 and the young people and adult representatives have been working hard to put on a showcase event to highlight the great range of activities available for young people in the local area.

Almost all of the activities in the programme can be done in Church Stretton and Craven Arms, in a bid to try and show the breadth of pastimes and voluntary effort in the local area.

Lee Chapman, a local Shropshire Councillor for Church Stretton and Craven Arms, and a member of the youth board, said:

“This has been a really useful pilot project with some important learning to be taken from it, culminating with this exciting event.  The young people have been very committed and creative, and we hope the local communities in and around Church Stretton and Craven Arms will turn out to support their efforts.”

There will be a timetable of events for the day, up-to-date details will be posted on www.facebook.com/ChurchStrettonHobbyFest or call 07990 085656.  Please note, some activities will require parental consent.  There will be a slightly revised programme if adverse weather, but the majority of activities will still take place.
