Temporary closure of Yew Tree Bridge from 4 August for up to two weeks

Related topics: Community

Yew Tree Bridge will be closed from Monday 4 August 2014 for up to two weeks to enable essential repairs to be carried out.

The bridge carries the unclassified road from Longville in the Dale to Hughley.

The work will involve general maintenance, including the rebuilding of the bridge spandrel and parapet walls and the clearance of vegetation from the structure.

The bridge must be closed to traffic while the work is being carried out as it is too narrow for the work to be carried out safely with the bridge open to traffic.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via Plaish.

Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available at the bridge throughout the work.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“It is appreciated that closing the bridge for these essential repairs will cause some inconvenience, and we will do all that we reasonably can to reopen the road as soon as possible.”

Tim Barker, local Shropshire Councillor for Burnell, added:

“Inevitably this closure and the diversion will cause disruption for locals, commercial traffic and visitors.  The repair team will do their best to shorten the period when the closure is required, and to help visitors find their way through to their destination.”
