England internationals Jess Clarke and Sophie Bradley paid a visit to Shrewsbury Cathedral Catholic Primary School ahead of their FIFA Women’s World Cup™ 2015 Qualifying match against Ukraine, which takes place on Thursday 8th May (K.O 7.30pm) at the Greenhous Meadow Stadium.
The England stars were greeted by over 150 youngsters during an all school assembly, where excited pupils got the chance to ask their burning questions about what it is like to play for England in a question and answer session.
Groups of children then took part in an exclusive coaching session with the England players and Shrewsbury Towns Community Sports coaches, along with a special appearance from the England mascots, Roary, Pauz and Mayne. They received top tips on developing their skills and improving their play, as well taking part in photography and collecting autographs.
Jess Clarke said:
“Both Sophie and I have really enjoyed coming to the school today. We have received a fantastic welcome and it’s nice to see so much excitement from the kids. They have been really engaged in the coaching session and keen to learn new skills. We hope to see them at the match cheering us on to a good result!”
Headteacher Mrs Watkins said:
“It has been an honour to host the England players today. We have a number of girls that are extremely engaged in football and it’s great to see them all involved in the coaching session. We are delighted that this important World Cup qualifying match is to be played in Shrewsbury. The whole school is right behind them and wishes them much success.”
England are five matches into their qualifying campaign for the 2015 World Cup in Canada, and sit top of Group 6 with a 100 per cent record. Along with the feast of international women’s football, from 5.30pm on match-day families and football fans are invited to take part in the free FA Junior Fanzone, brought by Continental Tyres.

Charlotte Lade, one of the world’s leading professional football freestylers, will be entertaining the fans with her amazing football tricks and the lovable England three lion mascots will also be in attendance.
There will be hair braiding, face painting and staff from Shropshire FA will be on hand to provide information on local football opportunities, all of which will take place outside the Greenhous Meadow Stadium.
