Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing team all geared up to climb Snowdon for charity

Five members of staff from Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing (ST & R) took on the challenging feat of climbing Snowdon this weekend to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team Richie Jones, Lauren Woods, Chris Shepherd, Luke Barker and Mary Regan set off with friends on Saturday 26 April to conquer the highest peak in England and Wales. The team started their 3560ft ascent from the car park at the village of Rhyd Ddu near Beddgelert, taking the Rhyd Ddu route up to the summit.

Richie Jones Supervisory Inspector at ST & R Housing who organised the event said;

“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. As a senior volunteer for the charity I have been dedicated to raising money for MacMillan for the past ten years raising over £30,000.

“I have walked Snowdon many times and whilst I was discussing some of these occasions in the office, one or two colleagues showed an interest!  I thought it seemed a reasonable idea to drum up some interest and charge £10.00 (minimum) a head.

“We were certainly blessed with the weather it was a beautiful day with wonderful visibility a real treat for the ‘first timers!”

Mary Regan from ST & R Housing added;

“We wanted to do something to help in any way we could, Macmillan Support do such amazing work and we felt this was a way that we could give something back. This was a great achievement I’m really pleased with our teams efforts.”

It is estimated that Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing has so far collected somewhere in the region of £200.

The team have set up a Just Giving page for anyone who’d like to make a donation. If you liked to donate visit http://www.justgiving.com/Star-Housing
