Upcoming road closure for Cound Arbour Bridge repairs
In order to repair accident damage sustained to the cast iron bridge parapets, the road over Cound Arbour Bridge will need to be closed from Monday 28 October 2013 for up to three weeks.
Cound Arbour Bridge carries the unclassified road U5323 over the Cound Brook, from Upper Cound to the junction with the A458 at Cound Arbour Farm. When the repair work is carried out it will be necessary to close the road over the bridge to vehicles, as the road is very narrow over the bridge.
There will be a signed diversion route directing traffic via Upper Cound along the C5062 towards Cross Houses to rejoin the A458 and in reverse. During the road closure there will be access over the bridge for pedestrians, cyclists and dismounted horse riders.
Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for bridge maintenance, said:
“Due to the narrow road over the bridge, it is unfortunately necessary to close the road while the repairs are taking place in order for them to be carried out safely.
“If it is possible to complete the repair work in a shorter time than the planned three week road closure, then we will look to reopen the road as soon as the work is completed and it is safe for vehicles to use.”
The repair work will be carried out by term maintenance contractors Ringway and supervised by Mouchel.
