Units available to let at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery site
Shropshire Council is inviting expressions of interest for retail and café units in the developing Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery, which are now available to let. The units are part of the redevelopment of the old Music Hall in the town’s historic Market Square, and as well as including the Museum and Art Gallery, the project will also incorporate an information centre.
The old Music Hall building is prominently located at the heart of the earliest area of Shrewsbury and provides a unique opportunity for a business to be right in the midst of the town. The market square hosts a number of community-led events and contemporary visual arts, which attract a wide range of people to the area and the high footfall provides any business with a unique opportunity to attract customers.
Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for business growth, said:
“The prime location of these units really offers a great chance for a business to position themselves right in the very heart of Shrewsbury. This regeneration project is entering the final stages and it will be fantastic to see it once it’s completed.”
Tina Woodward, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member for business growth, said:
“We’re excited to be opening up these units to let; it’s a unique opportunity for a business to take up and we’re open to enquiries now. The market square is a very busy area of Shrewsbury and is a historic hub for the town.”
The café unit – approximately 125sq metres in size – will be equipped with a fully- furnished kitchen and the let will include use of the courtyard.
The retail unit – which is approximately 90sq metres in size – overlooks the square and will be adjacent to the visitor information centre, which is moving from Rowley’s House as part of the development. The letting of this unit is subject to planning approval.
The development site incorporates a unique collection of buildings alongside the old Music Hall, including the 13th century Vaughan’s Mansion, the town’s 18th century prison cells and 20th century nuclear bunker.
