Help with surfing health information for Get Online Week
‘Get Online Week’ is Monday 14 October to Friday 18 October 2013, and Shropshire Broadplaces are promoting health information online throughout the county. Get Online Week is a national initiative to help the eight million people in the UK who don’t use the Internet.
Volunteers at Shropshire Broadplaces are offering drop in sessions for people to come along and get one-to-one support in using a computer. In addition to the regular sessions, there will be a stand at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopedic Hospital in Oswestry on Wednesday 16 October and Thursday 17 October, where patients and visitors can find out how to use websites such as NHS Choices.
On Thursday afternoon, 17 October, there will be IT support on offer at Doddington Surgery in Whitchuch. There is no need to book in advance, just turn up on the day.
Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for leisure, libraries and culture, said:
“With more medical and health information available online, people who are unable to access the Internet can miss out. I would encourage people to either come along to a session, or make friends and family aware of what is available.”

Anyone in Shropshire who would like information and advice on living a healthy lifestyle can visit www.healthyshropshire.co.uk or call the Healthy Shropshire helpline on 0345 678 9025. This number has been set up to provide a single point for people to go to for support with improving their health. Advisers can help people looking to find out more about how they can be healthier, and prevent themselves or others from getting ill.
