Coalport Bridge to reopen on 4 October

Coalport Bridge, which carries the Coalport to Broseley road over the River Severn by the Woodbridge Inn, is expected to reopen to traffic by 5pm on Friday 4 October 2013.

The bridge has been closed to traffic since 27 August 2013 to enable major repairs to be carried out to its north-eastern wing wall, part of which collapsed during December 2012.

The repair has been carried out by the council’s term contract contractor, Ringway.

Councillor Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for bridge maintenance, said:

‘‘It is appreciated that closing the bridge to carry out this essential work will have caused inconvenience to the local community, and I am pleased that it will be possible to reopen it on time.”

Jean Jones, local Shropshire Councillor for Broseley, said:

“This is some good news.  Residents of the Broseley area, who are currently experiencing road closures on several major access routes, will be relieved to hear that the Coalport Bridge work will be completed on time.”
