Secondary school open days and evenings

Open days and evenings are taking place across Shropshire for children starting secondary school in 2014, their parents and carers. 

They can talk to staff and pupils from each school, and admissions advisers from Shropshire Council will be on hand at all of the open evenings to offer help and advice on applying for a place. 

The open days and evenings will be held at schools on the following dates.  The open days and evenings for Priory School, Shrewsbury, and Ludlow CE School have changed from previously advertised dates, to the dates listed below. 

North Shropshire 

  • Corbet: 7 October, 9.15am to 12 noon and 7pm to 9pm
  • Grove: 3 October, 5.30pm to 8pm
  • Lakelands: 2 October, 1.30pm to 3pm and 6pm to 8pm
  • Marches: 10 October, 9.30am to 11.30am and 4pm to 8pm
  • St Martins: 8 October, tours 9am and 11.30am. Open evening 6.30pm to 8.30pm (use the main school car parks, not the sports centre)
  • Sir John Talbot’s: 26 September, 9am to 12 noon and 6pm to 8pm (use Tilstock Road entrance by day and the entrance off Heath Road in the evening)
  • Thomas Adams: 8 October, tours 10.30am and 1.30pm. Open evening 7.15pm to 9.15pm 

Shrewsbury area 

  • Belvidere: 7 October, 7pm to 9pm. (8 to 11 October, Open Week Tours by appointment – please contact reception)
  • Grange: 3 October, 7pm to 9pm
  • Meole Brace: 25 September, 9.15am to 11am and 5.30pm to 8pm
  • Priory: 30 September, 9am to 12 noon and 7pm to 9pm
  • Sundorne: 9 October, 6pm to 8pm (to book an appointment to tour the school at any time, contact Gail Rogers) 

South Shropshire 

  • Bridgnorth Endowed: 19 September, 6pm to 8pm (parking is available on Innage car parks).  (Tours available 4, 9, 18 and 23 October, 8.45am and 9.45am by appointment only)
  • Church Stretton: 9 October, 5pm to 7.30pm. 10 and 11 October, 9.30am to 12 noon
  • Community College: 9 October, 6.30pm to 9pm. (Visits during the school day available by appointment)
  • Idsall: 26 September, 6.30pm to 8.30pm. (27 September, 9.30am to 11.30am, by appointment only)
  • Lacon Childe: 30 September, 6.30pm to 8.30pm and 1 October, 9am to 11am
  • Ludlow CE: 3 October, 6pm to 8.30pm
  • Mary Webb: 3 October, 7pm to 9pm. (4 and 7 October, 10am to 12.30pm by appointment only)
  • Oldbury Wells: 16 September, 6pm to 9pm. (Parking on the east side only). (26 September, 3 and 17 October, 9.30am to 12 noon by appointment only)
  • William Brookes: 16 October, 7pm to 9pm and 18 October, 9am to 12.30pm.

The open evening for the Blessed Robert Johnson Catholic School in Wellington, Telford, will take place on 2 October from 6.30pm to 9pm.  There will be daily tours between 7 and 11 October at 10.15am.  There are no Catholic secondary schools in the Shropshire Council area. 

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services – transformation and safeguarding, said:

“These open days and evenings are held to give young people, their parents and carers, the chance to find out more about secondary schools in the area before they make an application for a place. They can look around each school, chat to staff and pupils, and get advice on how to apply. 

“Moving from primary to secondary school is an important stage in a child’s education, and the events take place each year to help in making the right choice for each individual.”
