Bring along your favourite teddy bear and a yummy picnic and join the children’s centre for some fun and games.  On Thursday 29 August 2013 between 11am and 1pm Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children’s centres are hosting a free Teddy Bears Picnic event for families with children under five and their siblings at Woodside School Field, Gittin Street, Oswestry.

Activities will include a fun variety for ‘giant’ games such as Jenga, Snakes and Ladders and Connect Four, and even a chance to explore old Victorian children’s games.  You can also take part in a range of exciting sporty activities such as tunnel crawling, space hoppers and crazy golf.

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services – transformation and safeguarding, said:

“This is a fun and active way for families to get together and help promote healthy lifestyles.  The teddy bears picnic event is a great way to get out and about and have some fun.  I encourage families to take part.  Remember your teddy bear and picnic.”

Vince Hunt, local Shropshire Councillor for Oswestry West, and deputy chair of governors at Woodside school, added:

“What a fun event for kids and teddies alike.  I know from my own kids how quickly they grow up, so events like this help to create those magic memories you cherish more and more as you get older.  Have a great picnic.”

Alex Klages, children’s centre area leader (north west), said:

“Please come and enjoy all the activities with your teddy bear and picnic; we plan for families to have lots of fun.”

The event will also offer an opportunity for parents and carers to find out more about what children’s centres offer in Oswestry, how to become a member, and find out what other groups and services are available in their local area.

Sure Start children’s centre services aim to promote services to families with children under five in the local area.  The service supports children’s learning and development, and encourages healthy lifestyles.  Children’s centre activities are free and take place at Woodside Children’s Centre, and Holy Trinity Children’s Centre in Oswestry, throughout the year.
