On Wednesday 4 September 2013 Sure Start children’s centre services are hosting a free “Rock-a-Bye Road-show” at Wem Children’s Centre to support children’s early learning and development, and encourage positive relationships between you and your child.

The event will be from 1.30pm-2.30pm and include an hour of gentle, soothing music for your pre-crawling infants, performed by three musicians.  Seating is on beanbags, cushions or fluffy rugs, and multisensory lights and aromas will help everyone to be totally relaxed and create a calming and enjoyable experience for all.

The music will remind you of lullabies you may have heard as children, and introduce some new tunes and ideas to take home and try out at nap time.

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services – transformation and safeguarding, said:

“This is a great opportunity for families with babies to take part in a free session to support their child’s development and to encourage positive relationships.  Everything throughout the session is designed especially for parents and carers and their babies.”

Pauline Dee, a local Shropshire Councillor for Wem, added:

“This is a great chance for those who care for little ones to share with them a new experience, and I think most people realise how important music is in a child’s development, and what a calming influence it can be when settling a child down to sleep.”

Sharon Graham, children’s centre area leader, has said:

“It will be a lovely, calming event and a good excuse to get out the house.  So come with your little ones, relax and enjoy.”

Parents can access information and advice from local children’s centre support workers about Sure Start children’s centre membership, and what other groups and services are available in their local area.

A weekly ‘Jumps to Babes’ group for parents and their children aged up to 12 months runs at the Wem Children’s Centre on Wednesdays from 1pm – 2.30pm.  There are also weekly Stay & Play sessions at the centre for all families with children under five.  These run on Mondays and Thursdays between 9.15am-11.30am.  Groups run all year round and are free of charge.
