Super Sundays in Shrewsbury and Ludlow this summer

Related topics: Community

Shropshire Council is encouraging people to visit Shrewsbury and Ludlow by rolling out a new parking initiative, ‘Super Sundays’, this summer.

The initiative is taking place on the Sundays between 21 July 2013 and 8 September 2013 inclusive, with people being able to park all day in Shrewsbury and Ludlow’s town centre promoted off-street car parks for the price of one hour – in most cases that will be 80p or less in Shrewsbury or 30p or less in Ludlow.

The plan follows the success of last year’s ‘Spectacular Sundays’ promotion in Shrewsbury, which was hugely popular with town centre businesses for increasing trade.

The Shrewsbury car parks included in the promotion are:

  • Raven Meadows Multi-Storey
  • Abbey Foregate
  • St Julian’s Friars
  • Frankwell Main
  • Frankwell Riverside
  • Frankwell Quay
  • The Tannery
  • St Austin’s Street
  • Bridge Street

The promotion has also been entered into by kind permission of Morris Property, which owns Barker Street and The Gap car parks, where charges will be £1.50 to park all day.

Customers who visit and park during this promotion period must clearly display a valid pay and display ticket for the one hour charge.

HGVs are excluded from this promotion.

The Ludlow car parks included are:

  • Galdeford Zone A
  • Galdeford Zone B
  • Smithfield
  • Castle Street

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for parking, said:

“We are always keen to work with traders to bring more people into our market towns, and we had such a good response following last year’s Sunday promotions we thought we would do it again.  We hope these initiatives will make it more attractive for people to come into town centres and stay longer on Sundays.  It’s all about helping people to spend more time enjoying them during a period which is so important to businesses.”
