SITA funds available for ancient trees in Shropshire

Related topics: Community

Shropshire Council has received funding from SITA Trust Ltd for a project to protect Shropshire’s ancient trees. Working together, the aim is to prolong these vulnerable trees’ lifespan and enhance the biodiversity value.

We are seeking applications from owners of trees on the Ancient Tree Hunt register to be involved. There is no strict deadline for receipt of forms, but the funds will be allocated on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis and the work must be completed by the end of December 2013.

Successful applicants will be able to claim up to £400 per tree.

The money will go towards the cost of the works, which may include direct management of the tree or activities to enhance growing conditions.

Approved works will be carried out on the owner’s behalf, allowing workers future access to the site when required for monitoring purposes.

For more information you can contact Martin Sutton, arboriculturalist at Shropshire Council, on 01743 252 422 or at martin.sutton@shropshire.gov.uk
