Dragon Boat challenge
News from our partners Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group
Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) took up the challenge of the Dragon Boat Race in Shrewsbury on Sunday 30 June 2013.
The Paddle for Health team, including GPs, directors, staff and partners, took to the River Severn to raise money for Severn Hospice. Not only was this a great teambuilding exercise, but hopefully shows the local NHS as taking its own medicine and doing some exercise. The fancy dress theme is different sports, such as tennis and running, to promote the different ways people can be more active. The CCG hopes to prove that exercise can be fun, and whether it is regular walking, cycling or gardening it all counts.
The team was led by Dr Caron Morton, Accountable Officer for the CCG.
Dr Caron Morton said:
“We were pleased to support Severn Hospice and it was great to see people supporting all the teams on Sunday. The weather was good and we enjoyed taking part, even though we did not make it to the finals.
“As a new organisation, we wanted to raise awareness of our role as the local leaders in the NHS. We thought, with so many people in The Quarry, this is a good opportunity to meet residents. It also gives us the chance to bring together staff and GPs and get to know one another, away from the office and the day-to-day work pressures.
“We also hope to raise awareness that exercise can be fun. Raising money for charity is a good way of motivating yourself to not only improve your health, but to help someone else at the same time.”
All the team have given their own time to take part in the race, and raise money for this worthy cause.
