Repairs at Hurst Bend near Clun rescheduled for summer 2014
Proposed work to reconstruct the northern bank of the River Clun alongside the B4368 road at Hurst Bend near Clun has been postponed until early summer 2014.
The work was originally programmed to start on 5 August 2013 when the B4368 road was to be closed to traffic for a period of up to three weeks.
Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for highway maintenance, said:
“The decision to postpone the work has been taken to enable the council to fully explore the possibility of carrying out the work in a manner that will avoid the need for daytime closures of the B4368 road.
“Whilst it is appreciated that some may consider the need to postpone the work until next year to seem rather excessive, it should be appreciated that Environment Agency restrictions mean that we cannot carry out the work between the beginning of October and the end of April.”
Shropshire Councillor for Clun division, Nigel Hartin, added:
“The delay follows discussion with the public, town council and on site with engineers, and is a pragmatic solution supported by the town council which will avoid damage to local businesses during the busy tourist season.”
