Essential repairs to the B4368 road at Hurst Bend near Clun – 5 August 2013
Essential work to strengthen the edge of the B4368 road at Hurst Bend near Clun is scheduled to start on Monday 5 August 2013.
The proposed work is necessary because at this location the nearby River Clun has eroded its northern riverbank to such an extent that any further erosion is likely to undermine the road. Therefore, it is proposed to reconstruct the river bank and roadside verge.
Unfortunately, to carry out part of the proposed work safely, it will be necessary to close the road to traffic. It is therefore proposed to close the road to traffic for a period of up to three weeks starting on 5 August 2013.
When the road re-opens, it is estimated that the work will then continue for up to another fortnight under traffic light control.
When the road is closed, it is proposed that traffic will be diverted along the B4385 and A488 roads via Little Brampton, Lydbury North and Bishop’s Castle.
Access along the B4368 road for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.
Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for highway maintenance, said:
“It is appreciated that the road closure will cause inconvenience, however I hope that people can understand that the work is necessary to ensure the structural integrity of the road.
“In an attempt to keep the road closure period to a minimum, the contractor will be working a 7 day week for the duration of the closure.”
