A free event bringing together the very best in hearing and sight support will take place in Shrewsbury next week.

The See Hear exhibition is now in its sixth year and will be held at the Shrewsbury Sports Village on Wednesday 15 May 2013 from 10am to 4pm.

It has gained national recognition as an important and useful event, with over 60 exhibitors planning to attend.

The exhibition brings together equipment and information from national companies, national and local charities, as well as public, voluntary and private sector services.

It has attracted around 600 visitors in past years to see the latest in technology, equipment and services for people with a sensory impairment.

This year the event will include a complimentary eye-screening facility using the very latest OCT scanner by Topcon, which can detect early signs of potential problems in a way not possible before.

Visitors will also get the chance to experience life with sight loss inside the sensory tunnel, as well as experiencing an interactive presentation on how the ear works at The Bionic Ear show.

Everyone is welcome, whether they are a carer, have a sensory impairment themselves, or are just curious about the new technology available.  As one visitor last year said:

“In all of my life, I have never received so much help and information in one place in one day.  Thank you.”

It’s also an ideal opportunity for professionals to network and interest has already been expressed from people across the West Midlands, Wales and the North West.

Pauline Rose, manager for Vision Technology and Training Shropshire and organiser of the See Hear event, said:

“We hope plenty of people take the opportunity to come along, as it really is a great opportunity to see the support and information that’s available.  There is no need for people to book – just come along any time between 10am and 4pm.  We look forward to seeing you.”

Shrewsbury Sports Village, in Sundorne Road, Shrewsbury, is fully accessible, with a free car park.  A free shuttle bus will run from Shrewsbury train station every 30 minutes starting at 9.30am.
