Ellesmere area LJC supports life-saving equipment

The town of Ellesmere is now a safer place thanks to an initiative to install two public access defibrillators and offer free training to people on their use.

The project, initiated by The Rotary Club of Ellesmere, aims to engage with local community organisations to build up a team of people trained free of charge by West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The equipment is stored in two visible yellow cabinets for use by trained people in emergency situations of sudden cardiac arrest.  One is sited at the toilets adjacent to the main car park in Scotland Street, with a further one due to be installed at The Boathouse adjacent to The Mere.  The Rotary Club of Ellesmere have trained over 70 people in the area on how to use the equipment.

Ellesmere area Local Joint Committee (LJC) were approached in 2012 to match fund the project cost of £2,778, and awarded 50% of the project cost – £1,389.

Councillor Ann Hartley, Chair of the LJC, said:

“This is such a worthwhile project, that demonstrates how a group can attract funding and work in partnership with others to achieve a benefit to not only local people but visitors to the town.  The LJC will have in the region of £16,000 to allocate locally this financial year, and are keen to support projects that offer area-based solutions to local issues.”
