Dance training: develop your skills for working in schools

Related topics: Leisure, culture and heritage

Are you a dance artist, practitioner or out of school dance provider, looking to develop your skills and experience in delivering dance in schools?

Shropshire Council will be hosting a training session on Wednesday 5 June 2013 from 10am to midday at The Hive in Shrewsbury, SY1 1TE.

The session will give participants from any dance background the chance to consolidate and develop their skills in teaching dance in schools, with relevance to working both within and beyond the curriculum.

The training will be provided by Mel Knott, an independent dance teacher and manager with over 20 years’ experience of working in dance education.  Alongside her teaching, Mel regularly delivers continuing professional development for teachers, artists and practitioners.

The programme will contain both theoretical and practical elements, and include:

  • Principles of high quality learning and teaching in dance
  • Contexts, practicalities and essentials of working in and out of schools
  • A practical example of a dance workshop.

Comments from Mel’s previous courses with Shropshire Council:

“All brilliant – I felt very engaged throughout and the tutor’s passion for dance really shone through and has inspired me.”

“Excellent communication skills, a good use of resources, and a great knowledge about the subject.

Mel’s ideas were practical and useful and transferred into school well.”
