Incredible Edible Plant a Seed Day

Related topics: Community / Leisure, culture and heritage

Come and take part in Shrewsbury in Bloom’s Incredible Edible Plant a Seed Day on Saturday 13 April 2013.

The event will run between 11am and 4pm and take place in the unit next to WH Smith on the second level of the Darwin Shopping centre, and is the ideal way to kickstart your summer.

Plant a seed, take it home and watch it grow.  Everything you need to get yourself going will be there: seeds, pots, compost.

Shrewsbury in Bloom gardeners, allotment holders and others will be there to give you a helping hand getting started.

Once you have planted your seed, take it home and put your new-found skills to good use, nurturing the plant as it grows in your own home.

Incredible Edible Shropshire aims to promote and improve access to food by: working together to grow food in local communities; learning and sharing ideas/tools/gardens/skills; and supporting local businesses by buying locally.

This new initiative has grown in Shropshire, inspired by existing local projects and the global Incredible Edible movement which started in Todmorden, West Yorkshire.

Promoting and growing food can encourage individuals and communities to improve diet through eating fresh healthy local food, meeting and working with others and learning new skills.

This can result in improved open spaces and wildlife areas and have a positive impact on the wider social and physical environment.
