Forton Bank Road wall repair work

Essential repair work to the weathered sandstone retaining wall at the bottom of the C1053 Forton Bank Road, near Montford Bridge, is scheduled to start on Monday 11 February 2013.  It is anticipated to take up to six weeks to complete.

The work will be carried out by Ringway on behalf of Shropshire Council. The work will involves taking down the existing wall to just below road level and rebuilding it in new stone.  The pavement will also be resurfaced in front of the wall as part of this scheme.

In order to allow the traffic to pass safely, and have enough working space, it will be necessary to close the pavement and put up temporary traffic lights on Forton Bank Road.  Motorists are advised to consider alternative routes to avoid delays while the work is being carried out.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for highways maintenance, said:

“This is essential work which needs to be carried out.

“Whilst it is appreciated that the temporary traffic lights and the pavement closure will cause some delays for traffic and inconvenience for pedestrians, please be assured that everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to finish the work  as soon as possible.”
