Baschurch primary school celebrates good Ofsted report
A Shropshire primary school has been praised by Government inspectors for its standard of teaching, saying pupils find learning fun and are enthusiastic about their education.
Baschurch Primary School has been declared a “good” school in its recent inspection, improving from “satisfactory” when it was last inspected.
Ofsted inspectors visited the school on 17 and 18 January 2013 and were impressed with the progress being made by pupils, commenting on the good levels of behaviour and high standard of teaching.
Inspectors said:
“Teaching has improved since the last inspection and all staff are determined to become even better by sharing good practice with each other. Lessons are well planned, with each lesson building carefully upon the previous one, and learning goals are shared with the pupils so that they know what to aim for”.
The report highlights the strong leadership at the school, which provides a good platform for further improvement in the future. Inspectors also said pupils feel safe and enjoy being at school.
The report said:
“The headteacher’s strong leadership and high expectations are a significant factor in the good improvements made since the last inspection. As a result of these improvements all aspects of children’s education are now good or better, and leaders have successfully identified appropriate areas for further development.
“Pupils all say they enjoy coming to school and this is demonstrated in their consistently high rates of attendance. Pupils are punctual and well prepared for the day. Year 6 pupils said they will be sorry to leave the school at the end of the year”.
Andrew Everett, Headteacher, said:
“We are extremely pleased that the hard work put in by all members of the school community has been recognised, that Ofsted have now identified us as a good school and that ‘all aspects of children’s education are now good or better’ at Baschurch Primary.”
Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for education and skills, added:
“It’s a pleasure to see such a positive report, which highlights so many positive aspects of the school. I know how hard the headteacher and governors have worked to raise standards at Baschurch, and I have no doubt they will continue to do so.”
