Opportunity to learn more about Shropshire’s voluntary organisations
Fifty of Shropshire’s voluntary organisations will come together this week to offer information about their services and the support they offer.
The Voluntary and Community Sector Market Place Day will be held at the Council Chamber, Shirehall, Shrewsbury, on Thursday 24 January 2013.
Shropshire Voluntary and Community Sector Assembly has organised the event on behalf of its members. The assembly has more than 300 members in total, and provides a way for local groups and voluntary organisations to work with each other and other public groups and organisations.
Pauline James, from the VCS Assembly, said:
“The event has been organised to provide an opportunity for people to find out more about Shropshire’s voluntary services. The event, being held from 10am to 2pm, also provides a networking opportunity for the organisations taking part, helping them to share ideas and offer mutual support.”
Community, charitable, voluntary and other organisations which will set up stands include: Victim Support; Alzheimer’s Society; Confide; Independent Living Partnership Ltd; West Mercia Women’s Aid; Headway Shropshire; Axis Counselling; Taking Part; and many more. The event will, in particular, demonstrate the wide range of voluntary services available in the field of health and well-being.
Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for health and well-being, said:
“We want to make sure that people are aware of the range of support available in Shropshire. We would encourage people to come along and ‘shop around’; visitors can spend as much or as little time as they like browsing the stands and talking to people from the different organisations.”
