Ageing well in Whitchurch

Local organisations are coming together later in January 2013 to host an informal workshop event on the topic of ‘Ageing Well in Whitchurch’.

The event will bring together local people, voluntary groups and service providers to think about the town’s strengths and weaknesses as a place to ‘age well’, and the role that different organisations can play in supporting older people to stay happy and healthy.

Local Shropshire Councillors Gerald Dakin and Peggy Mullock are inviting people in Whitchurch to come along and take part in the event.

Gerald Dakin said:

“This isn’t one of those events where we give long speeches or present a set of proposals. We want to start with local people’s ideas and experiences to help is focus all our efforts in future.”

Peggy Mullock said:

“There are lots of local organisations and individuals working to support people in later life, and this event is about building on what we already have, so that Whitchurch can be an even better place to grow old.”

The event will be run as a friendly and informal workshop, and is open to people aged over 50, carers, and others interested in making a contribution.

The event will be held on the afternoon of Thursday 31 January at Whitchurch Civic Centre.  To find out more and book your place please contact Whitchurch Town Council office on 01948 665761 or email nicki.young@shropshire.gov.uk.
