Walkerslow Bridge to close for essential repairs

Related topics: Community

Walkerslow Bridge, which carries the Wrickton to Oldfield road over a watercourse near Walkerslow Farm, is to be closed for repairs on 19 November 2012 for a period of up to three weeks.

The closure is needed to rebuild one of the bridge’s parapet walls which was recently demolished as a result of vehicle impact.  Unfortunately, because of the very narrow nature of the bridge, this cannot be done safely without closing it to traffic.

When the bridge is closed, traffic will be diverted along the B4364 road via Neenton and Cleobury North.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for bridge maintenance, said:

“This is essential work which needs to be carried out in response to the bridge being hit by a vehicle.

“It is appreciated that the bridge closure may cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”

Madge Shineton, a Shropshire Councillor for Cleobury Mortimer, said:

“This small but important bridge for the area has to have these essential repairs done.  Our contractors will complete as soon as possible, weather permitting.”
