Shropshire soldiers who fought for Parliament
A fascinating insight into the 17th century men from Shropshire who fought for Parliament in the Civil War will be revealed by Professor Malcolm Wanklyn, at the Friends of Shropshire Archives annual lecture on Wednesday 14 November 2012.
The Friends of Shropshire Archives arrange a varied programme of events across the county to support the work of Shropshire Council’s Shropshire Archives. They also support the service through volunteer help and fundraising.
Professor Wanklyn’s talk will bring to light a variety of evidence about the experience of Shropshire men who fought for Parliament against King Charles I during the bloody English Civil War from 1642-1660. Professor Wanklyn’s career as a professional historian has involved research into many aspects of the Civil War, including investigating the career of Oliver Cromwell and other generals. The lecture will present fresh insights into the very local impact of the Civil War on Shropshire individuals who were directly caught up in the extraordinary times in which they lived.
The lecture will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 14 November 2012 at Shropshire Archives, Castle Gates, Shrewsbury. Tickets cost £5. Places are still available. For further details and to book a place, please contact Pat Kiernan on 01952 252814, email patk1@blueyonder.co.uk.
